Who has some pipe? Anybody have poles?

I wanna make a longer mallet head. Will compensate within reason.

Tron had some last time I knew. I have a pole and would like to make my own mallet soon but I don't have any pipe. Also, I'm such a newb and don't know what I'm doing so any help would be appreciated.

and 3 years of mallet making expertise.

but not very much spare time

I need to make a new mallet soon. I'd be willing to help make mallets...using the "Kruse" method most likely. I have a drill, with a hole saw bit (actually floppy has that right now), and hockey tape.

I should still have 5-6 useable shafts. Some of which have already been used as mallets but are still in okay condition.

Maybe we (Courtney, Charlie, Tim D. and Pete) can get together for a few minutes on Saturday to make a few mallets and drink.

How does that sound?

If you're going to use a t-nut and tighten a bolt against the shaft, make sure you use one of these:

They used to use them to mount caliper brakes to old road bikes. It distributes the force really well along the shaft so as to make sure it does not break!

I might have some of those at the bottom of my box o' bike parts.

Count me in for mallet making day! What time? How about 1 pm on Saturday? Or should we do it later and then just all ride to the full man ride together? Maybe we could start at 4 on Saturday?

Whenever at my place, but I humbly request that those who come help at least a little bit with cleaning my garage. I'm going to start Friday afternoon.

But I agree, if you show up, expect to help clean up. Pete has been generous with his tools, space, materials and time. Bring him beer, too.

Charlie, maybe you can bring the yellow you have to polo any night this week so one of us can get it to Pete's on Saturday.

I'm bringing my own tools, and I'm going to bring trash and leave it in Pete's garage....most likely just a bag of banana peels and tampons.

I'd be willing to help. I need to try and build up a mallet as well.
And I have a dremel tool and some fancy Diamond bits and cutting wheels. If needed I can bring them as well.

...but seriously, who needs to run to the hardware store beforehand for bolts and t-nuts? I do.

I'll need to stop by the hardware store as well! We should just pick up a bunch of bolts and t-nuts and people can pay us back.

Where can we go snatch a bunch of mallet head material? Maybe other than the yellow. Is there a construction site somewhere that we can go raid?

I have ~5' of blue pipe. It's not as wide and has a thicker wall. It's not great for polo in my opinion but it's there and it's free.

I just need a foot of yellow. I like the yellow...it reminds me of the sun...and dehydrated person pee.

I'm new to polo and have only met a few of you guys, but I've a few feet of black pipe if anyone needs it. Let me know, depending on what school looks like I should be at the Sunday polo. There's also a lady on Craigslist selling off her daughter's old ski stuff, she has a couple pairs of poles left for $10 a set.

Couldn't find a way to pm, so I thought I'd just edit my old post. I won't be playing polo today--do you guys play in light rain?--because I need to stay on top of some papers, but I'll be living at the library next week if you want to pick some up. That goes for other people too, I have more pipe than I want to store.

If it's wet like this on Sunday, we'll usually head to the 5th story of the Hitt Street garage. But we played at the Global Sounds Festival yesterday for about 9 hours, so a bulk of us is recovering from playing and drinking.

And Aaron, do you need to build a mallet yourself?

I can store the mallet material if you'd like! I am around all the time, living in the library too. Let me know, I could pick it up tomorrow if you'd like

Ill take some of that material if it is up for grabs!!

I've made a somewhat shitty mallet, but it seems sturdy enough. It'd be cool if some of you guys would take a look at it and give me some pointers on how to improve it. Glad Saturday went well; pretty cool that polo was involved.

Nic/Andrew, I've a really small window of availability today because we're going to look at a wedding venue after class. The rest of the week is a bit more free, but if you're free around 12-1ish call/text me at 397-1060 and I'll drop off the pipe.

Wedding venue in town? I recommend Stephen's Chapel. Katherine and I looked everywhere, and unless you are willing to risk an outdoor wedding there is no better place in Columbia. I have a final from 1:30 to 4:30 tomorrow if you are free after that! Or you can just drop the pipe off at my place. 1208 Paquin, just around the corner from the University. Of course, I'm assuming you just want to be free of it...

I'll be riding to work around then, but I'll stop off at your place and leave it on the.. porch? I'll leave it somewhere seeable, surely no one will want to steal pipe. Maybe that's the mistake Ameren makes.

The Firestone Baars is so cool! I don't remember the exact pricing; my fiancee and I are also using the Stephen's Ballroom so we got a package deal; might be more expensive if you had a different reception area picked out. If I recall, it was cheaper than any of the churches we looked at (and with less restrictions), the tiger hotel, or Les Bourgeois. I remember being really surprised the price was so low, considering the building. When are you getting married? The place fills up fast. Katherine and I settled for a Friday wedding.

I wasn't totally sure where to put it; didn't see a number, but there were a couple doors. If you were standing on the street looking at the house, I put two cuts of pipe to the left of the steps going up. There's a bin right beside it. Hopefully you'll see it?

Anybody have some old ski poles? Not looking or nice Fixcraft or MKE shafs. I'm willing to pay whatever you paid for them, if anything. Just trying to build some fresh mallets before Lawrence this weekend.
