we're set up to use the border patrol again at the BWWW kickoff event at flat branch park. is anyone available to transport it? Also this year it is combined with the fitness is fun parks and rec event and is wednesday evening. it'll be just like pickup, but with less cursing. if it gets too dark to play we can pick it up and move it to the garage.

This sounds a little too main stream for me...

My other concern is that you say it's wednesday evening. What time does it start? How much play time are we looking at?

Start time is 6 p.m., according to the thread's title.

Any idea what grounds we'll use at the park? Will we have a stretch of 5th street?

6 PM? That's lame and kind of a ton of effort for not very much play time.

We use a section of a parking lot/street, Christian. The one at the end of fourth street before locust. Works pretty well.

And would we have to pay the $93 again? Or did the city cover it?

If the city pays, transports and tears down then I'd do it. But I have a feeling we're expected to do everything.

Thoughts Charlie?

For real. If I was going to pay $100 to rent something to make me look good it would be a tux or maybe an ugly person for a friend.

We should not keep shelling out our cash for other people's events.

$100 could keep us fed/boozed all day at Cosmo (where we can play for free with no set up)

My 2\cents on the Border Patrol

P.S. Didn't keyboards used to have a \cent key?

I think charlie implied that the city is paying for it but we are responsible for picking it up and bringing it back to them.

What could you possibly mean by this? You didn't even pay the last time, how could you have an opinion on how other people should spend their money? Lol.

Like I said this was my 2\cents. If you think I should have no opinion that is your prerogative, but I do have a right to an opinion on the direction of the club. And if the direction of the club is to pay money so our friend's events look less pathetic, I am going to continue to raise my concerns. We used to do public appearances with the boards from the garage. They were closer to downtown but less professional and the only cost was for the original construction.

However if what you say is true that the city is loaning us the boarder patrol for free and we just have to pick it up, that is great. But maybe if we got the boards from Tim A's garage, we might have enough to play like we did last year.

On a side note: I won't be in town this night so expect only my heckling from afar.

Also I never heard: Was the "event" a success?

Hahaha good one.

The success of the event depends on how you're defining the event. If the event was the "get nick kruse laid" festival, then let's be frank and say no.

the city's providing the rink for us. if we can't pick it up, they'll "see if there's a way [they] can find to get it there". but we should let them know asap. the boards from the garage/tim a's garage suck, and also require us to move them.

floppy i remember when you played polo, and i feel like your opinion carried more weight back then...

if there's really not enough interest to do this, i can let them know, but its a good way to get on the good side of the parks and rec dept and pednet, and we've played at the event for the past two years. also, it gets us seen, which cosmo and the garage don't.

i feel like i brought this event up in feb. when they first contacted me and everyone was stoked about it. maybe i imagined this.

also, last sat. i paid five dollars to play polo all day in a public place on a halfway decent court. i'd call that a success.

\r\n\r\nMy 2\xC2\xA2\r\n\r\nI agree with the substance of Nick's argument, although perhaps I would have myself phrased it more delicately. I likewise feel that paying for the rink would be a misuse of funds. $100 would buy food enough for everyone to eat, and we could play at Cosmo. Is $100 a good price to pay for the occasional spectator? I do not feel so. I don't think anyone here has started to play because they saw us playing at a festival, and as far as community outreach, our boards are still being taken by the university.\r\n\r\nIf an event would like to sponsor us playing by renting the rink, I think its fair to facilitate that. I don't mind picking up and dropping off the boards. It's after school is out, and although it's not the least we can do, it meets the event sponsor half-way -- instead of us doing all the work AND fronting cash. It is definitely FUN to play in front of a lot of people. I do not feel it's worth $100.\r\n\r\nI didn't mind last time. After all, whats her face who STILL did not sleep with Nick Kruse (hopeless...) is a friend of a member, and I feel that deserves some respect. But the Getting Fat Kids Outdoors festival is something we are hardly affiliated with. And frankly, fat kids should stay indoors where they cannot invade my personal space with their mouth breathing and cankles.\r\n\r\nThe important thing to remember here is that Nick Kruse did not get laid. Seriously. How is that possible.

don't use them stupid Unicode characters, it messes shit up

I don't mind picking up the boards. That is hardly an inconvenience. Lets just do it as early as possible so it is worth it for us.

Ask the city to do it. If not, then I'm sure our truck and van drivers can step up again. I can help load/unload any time that day.

I'm leaving for Bloomington when Kruse wants to.

Christian, ride in the van. I will have to leave late. I really don't mind driving alone. I'm used to that sort of thing.

Don't ask the city to transport it, that's making us seem very high maintenance and that's just not the kind of people we are. We'll pick it up. Takes like 15 minutes tops.

erin says:
"Let's see I will be at PMC at 415ish pm to pick up other supplies, would you be able to meet around 4 pm to get the rink? I have to go back after the event to drop off other supplies, so if you all want to bring it back that same evening, I'd be more than happy to meet you out there (as I'll be there anyways), but if the next morning works best for you, that is fine too."

i can't give her an answer because i have no truck and will be working 10-6 the next two days... so the people who can help, speak up!

So this is only from 6pm to 8pm...and they're blocking off 4th St. I'm guessing this means at like 7:45 we're going to be told to break it down so they can reopen the road at 8pm, right? If that's the case, I'm probably not even going to bother trying to bust my ass to get there when I get off work at 7PM. I hate not having the garage to play in...like really really bad.

The more I think about it, the less likely I would come anyway. I have a lot of shit to do/get before we leave on Friday, and very little time to do it. I may not come on the ride tonight for the same reason.
