I sat down with Greg Kincade today, one of the guys who sets up events for Off-Track, and discussed the idea of working alongside them to set up a tournament. After the Pedalers Jamboree this past weekend, Greg scouted out an abandoned tennis court in Boonville that he is VERY interested in resurfacing and making a decent spot to house a tourney and even a future spot to play, be it 30 minutes away. They have very good connections in many of the areas that would be necessary to set up a tournament. As of right now, they are wanting to work toward something for next year, the idea of doing it on the same day as the Jamboree has been thrown out there but is not set in stone, as there are really nothing but the basic ideas as of right now. We discussed a ton of things today so if anyone can think of any questions or ideas to throw my way in regards to putting this on, please let me know.

what will we do about housing? i'm sure people don't mind camping but i can't exactly say that for the majority. plus we have to consider the ragers who will need a designated driver(s) back to como for the night, or even just getting rides set up. i like the idea regardless of the commute though. i guess my main concern is housing and transporting.

i feel like a lot of ppl would do the whole camping thing if the weather is nice enough and i know he mentioned there being access to showers so there may be some sort of housing situation that could be worked out, good thinking though! i'll bring this to his attention.

I like the idea and I envision a more 'casual' tournament like the one some of us attended in Lawrence. Things to know: Are there lights?, How many courts would we have?, etc. As far as housing is concerned, I love the idea of camping. Why drive back and forth if you have a great campsite?

p.s. Why not fund the re-surfacing of Cosmo instead? I mean, really, Booneville?

yeah, why spend money on a one time shot like that? if I was staying, there's no way I'd go play that far away.

if he's interested in forking over some money, we should really try to use it as best as we can. I like tims (and Nick K's) ideas, especially that rc track. custom as fuck polo court!!

that would be super rad if we could resurface cosmo. however, if we can't i agree with tim that camping would be fun, at the same time we have to be considerate of the guests. i'm sure the majority of comopolo can use our brainpower to find the most fanstickist, woodsiest, partiest campsite in boonville.

Sorry but inviting people to a tournament in Boonville is not something I'm willing to participate in. It's too far out of town and really is not worth it in my opinion.

I know he wants to have it there because that is where the event happens, but I would not want to invite people to come to boonville.

If he wants to help us do something in Como, then great, but otherwise I say this is not worth pursuing.

the resurfacing of cosmo wouldnt be something we could personally pursue, that would be up to the parks and rec and we have tried to hit them up. may i ask why inviting people to boonville would be such a bad idea? not that i'm saying it's not, just wondering what your thoughts are. he was talking about making a weekend out of it with a trail ride to boonville on friday. i know it all seems like a stretch right now, thats why we're getting feedback. keep it coming! i think most of their thinking is that they just did the weekend thing with the jamboree and they had 1200 ppl this year, camping and all and it went really well. i am also working with the idea of getting something together at cosmo this year to give them an idea of what we're working with.

-there would be lights, he spoke of access to light structures
-2 courts, it's on a double tennis court

CASINO! but i don't know how i feel about riding my bike 30 or so miles to a tournament... we should try and entertain them in como--set up shows or bar parties-- so we can continue building our awesome rep. if people like us maybe they'll start giving us money withOUT the sexual favors!

If I was a polo player in Bloomington, or Louisville, or Lex, or anywhere further than 2 hours, and I got invited to go to a tournament on abandoned tennis courts in Boonville... I probably wouldn't go.

Therefore, I wouldn't invite people to do something that I wouldn't do if I was them. I like traveling to tournaments to see new towns that have cool shit going on. I like riding around in their cities. Bloomington, Lexington, Minneapolis, Madison, New Orleans, etc...

Sorry to be negative, I'm really just trying to give you my straight opinion. I don't think many people would be interested in attending a tournament in a place like Boonville and it seems like a hassle that would not be worth it.

I'd definitely be open to putting on an expo there and inviting STL to come and hang out with us, though. They always got our backs.

if the said "come hang out in this shitty city and play polo on these abandoned tennis courts" of course no one would come. but if it said "polo camp out! come play polo build fires sleep in tents and maybe hit up a casino" people would love that. who doesn't love that? i think people would be into it. but im also with vince, it seems like a bit of a waste to have them put money into a place we will hardly ever use.

yeah, i see where everyone is coming from. i went to louisville, and even as much as i loved the city, i probably wouldnt go back. the courts were terrible (abandoned untouched tennis courts) and i'm not sure they knew how to put on a tournament. people played pickup in a garage that was filled with pillars and hep c until 5am and had a kick ass time. i feel like if you could get a local bar on board, and house like the KC sprints, maybe a show and some prizes, you'd have some appeal. people are aware that COMO knows how to have a good time. he already has a brewery (tallgrass out of manhattan KS) lined up that would offer some free beer samples and maybe more. i don't mind the "negativity" and really don't see it as that, keep it coming. he also has said that it might cost like $200 to repave the courts (he spoke of the process in detail but it was over my head). the lively city of columbia would also only be a 2 hr bike ride away! :]

actually, i think i'd go back and do the tourney again, got to play some awesome polo and meet some rad people. shitty things aside, i still had a blast!
