So I'm trying to figure out an appropriate combination for better acceleration; my bike is 130 BCD, and a few chainrings on Nashbar seem to have few enough teeth to be decent. I left my bike at work, but I think there's 16t on the back--is it possible to keep that and find an appropriate chainring for it?

How many teeth on the front (chainring)?

Well the smallest chainring you can get for 130 bcd is 38...and with a 16t freewheel that's a gear ratio over 2. I personally play on a ratio around 1.5. With a 110 bcd crankset you can go all the way down to a 33t chainring (I have a 34, and many have 35). Even with that small of a chainring you still have to get a big ass freewheel to get a decent polo ratio.

Now here is the pertinent question. Is it a triple crankset? If you can put, say, a 26t granny ring coupled with the 16t freewheel, then you'd be in business.

It's not a triple, unfortunately; I think I'll find a 38t chainring, and then wait to order a cog (20t, 22t?). Shit's expensive. I didn't think polo would cut into my beer habit.

Thanks for the direction!

Sorry dude, I don't have any of these parts! But I think you could find a 24t cog.

18t could be cool; let me get a chainring, and then throw it on, see how it feels with the 16t, and then get back to you? Either way, I greatly appreciate it.
