COMOPOLO

Hey y'all

My friend's stepdad is a videographer and editor for CATV. I talked to him awhile ago about bike polo and he was SUPER jazzed about it; at first he considered playing with us (and still is) and now he wants to broadcast our next polo invitational event. Since the end of September and most of October is super polo crazy, I was wondering if we wanted to try and put something together for maybe november, however I'll explain what he has in mind and we can go from there.

His name is Scott Wilson and he's an avid como cylcist. He's also very much involved in the older, more family-ish community, people we often don't advertise to but could be great supporters of the sport. He's has a hand in most local organizations, so spreading the word for COMOPOLO through him could be very beneficial for our club. That being said, Scott wants to come out and shoot a mini tournament (it could even be a setup similar to the pull out) and broadcast it for locals. He is also willing to use footage that we can use to promote our club. His idea is to shoot and broadcast the games with a scoreboard so people can watch at home on local access. I'm going to send him some footage of previous recordings of tournaments of COMO teams. He really really wants to work with us.

If anyone doesn't want to do this, speak up.

More importantly, if anyone has any footage of comopolo or other tourneys and I can send to him post it to this forum. Also, if we really want to do this and get our name out, we gotta collaborate on some sort of weekend event, it doesn't have to be big or flashy either.

I plan on contacting him throughout the week to set this up so sooner the better!

Send him Mr. Do's stuff. Some of his good scoreboard videos. Tell him if he could mic one of the players, that'd be a cool addition too.

Organizing something is going to be a hassle as the end of the season is already pretty filled up for everyone. November is a long time from now, and I'm guessing there won't be much enthusiasm for it then. Tell him to find a reason to visit Milwaukee, STL or Lawrence in the month of October! See if he'd be willing to meet us in one of those towns... like if he's got a friend he hasn't seen in a long time or something!

His stepdaughter (my friend) lives in STL. I can talk to him about going as long as STL is open to it as well. The only objection I could imagine would be that he has too much equipment since he wants to bring a few other videographers with him...

but i'll definitely send him some vids tonight so we can get the ball rolling

should i try and get him to come on october 9th or is that too soon for everybody?

sidenote: i duno if i can make that weekend unless i drive up early saturday or sunday.

could we not just organize some sort of mini tournament with comopolo and whoever else we can talk into coming on a sunday at our normal polo time?! i think whatever is easiest on this guy is best.

or even just a friendlies where we have designated teams... ? i need to e-mail him but i want to have as many questions as possible so i'm not harassing him daily or weekly...

The most recent stuff I have video of is our last friendlies...but it's not broadcast friendly as it is 24p....but if he just wants to see it, I can throw it up online somewhere.

I just think that's going to make for some boring fucking television.

Edit: sorry, that sounded negative. I just mean: do you think anyone is going to want to come to columbia in early november? Building an event around a camera seems silly to me and people will be like, "naw man".

Let him look @ some footage and see what he would want from us, if we cannot comply then tough shit.

It would be cool to organize something in late fall! Something that would be interesting but also showcases our whole club, even the boring fucking players ;)

i know november seems too soon, but like i said it doesn't have to be official or crazy big. if we wait until march or april when the weather is more conducive for polo there's a good chance he'll have another project or else will forget about the whole thing. when we originally talked about it he was too busy planning for his daughter's wedding, which already happened, so now he's free. i figured why not since he has some free time.

if people don't want to do this that's fine with me. i figured it would be a great way to make our club known to como peoples that have no idea what bike polo is about. people of all ages and come to the wine bar and if i mention bike polo they have absolutely no idea what i'm talking about or that we even play here. like i said, all ages, not just rich old farts! even if it was "boring" to us, it wouldn't be boring to people who have never seen it, at least that's my opinion.

I only am bored at pickup when it's between games.

Tell him that sooner is better than later because polo during the winter sucks. Tell him that if he wants to visit someone in STL or Lawrence and film us then, it is going to make for a better show, but also tell him that if he doesn't want to do that then we'll try to accommodate him on our court here. Have him know that if that is going to be the case, we still have to organize a time and actually get some people to come and that it's not going to look as cool on TV because the crowd will be much smaller and most likely less enthusiastic.
