My concern with city-based play is that it will limit the competitive play for new, determined players like myself. That is to say I may not get to play in new format tourneys for a little while.

I get it. The idea is to drive players to get better so they earn spots on cities' teams. I dig that, I really do. And I'd bust my ass to get on my respective city's team.

I'm just uncertain where I'd get the chance to play highly competitive polo outside of the bench style tourneys. "Old-fashioned" 3v3 tourneys? Friendlies? Trips to nearby towns for intense pickup? All possibilities.

Is my uncertainty irrational? Will teams have 9 players?

Christian,

I've thought about this aspect as well. I actually think it could be great to have a new format tournament with one court for A-team play and another for B-team play. In St. Louis we have the benefit of multiple courts. While not in the same location this could really work out well for something like this. In the new format there would be less tournament play anyways and more team vs team games/events. In this scenario it makes total sense to have a B-Team "exhibition" before the A-Team "main event".

The new format is the future. The future is bright.

Oh yeah, nine players is too many.

You guys should host this thing in St. Louis. You do all the work. We'll take all the glory.

I plan on riding RAGBRAI this year. It is a weeklong ride (party) across the great state of Iowa. I'm looking for people to ride with. Como Polo folks are some of the first people that come to mind. It is the last week of July. 60-80 miles per day for a total of about 470 miles. If anyone has any interest we can talk more off of the forum.

Are we still going?! C'mon you should have more faith in us than that. If this was a polo tournament we were talking about your concern would be warranted. We're talking about a party though.

I can't give you a list of people attending but I'd guess three cars worth. Some of us will be there Friday night, some Saturday morning.

My number is 314-681-7446. I don't know anything more than you do about the place or the details or how to get there.

The gold tops thing was a joke. Maybe a bit of advice, since it does indicate a better beer.

Kruse, go to the gas station and check it out. The top of those cans are still gold. Hell, the Stag can is all gold. You must be thinking of light beer. You can bring all the Miller Lite you want but if I drink one after mistaking it for a real beer we're gonna have an issue.

Can you explain what this means? Like, basically Miller Lite is the only one, right?

Stag, Busch, Hamms. You have much to learn. The ones with the gold tops are the best.

Bring whatever you want but Weener's got it right. No glass is allowed on the river.

Floating is still on for the 24th. I just called NRO again, we won't need reservations this late in the season. Prepaying will not be necessary. They offer two free nights of camping when you pay for a float trip. 6 person rafts are $120.

Camping Friday, floating Saturday, and camping again Saturday night sounds good to me.

Floppy is correct. NRO looked to be the cheapest. I think they even throw in two nights of camping at no extra charge. Anyone who wants to go is going to need to prepay probably via paypal or another method. I'll be in charge of getting shit reserved but can't float all of the cash. I called NRO about two weeks ago. We don't need to reserve too far in advance that late in the season.

I've mentioned it before. Who would be interested in a polo float trip? It will cost around $40 per person. I think the Big Piney looks like a good spot that is about 2.5 hours away from both Columbia and St. Louis.

We'd be floating on a Saturday. We could camp Friday night or drive down early Saturday Morning. Float all day Saturday and camp Saturday night. Drive home Sunday.

We're talking rafts, not canoes. Canoes cause break-ups and ruin friendships. They also won't hold enough beer. If you're seriously interested let me know. We'll probably need 10 or more people to make this possible.
